Un lugar donde pasan cosas: Conversations Around a Kitchen to Rethink Valencia

Un lugar donde pasan cosas is a cultural initiative by Studio2 that brings together people from architecture, design, business, culture and the creative industries around a kitchen to discuss contemporary Valencia.

A city is also built through conversation

Cities are not built only with stone, concrete or steel.

They are also shaped by the people who imagine, transform and inhabit them every day.

Valencia is experiencing a particularly interesting moment. Architects, designers, entrepreneurs, journalists, illustrators, craftspeople and creators are contributing to a contemporary identity that is Mediterranean and open to the world.

Yet many of these people work only a few kilometres apart and rarely find the time or context to meet and listen to one another.

This is where Un lugar donde pasan cosas begins: a cultural initiative by Studio2 that uses conversation as a way to connect people, disciplines and ideas.

Not a conference. Not networking.

We wanted to create something different.

No stage. No endless presentations. No obligation for every encounter to become a business opportunity.

Each meeting begins with a question and brings together people from different fields to discuss architecture, design, housing, business, identity, culture, creativity and the city.

We are particularly interested in conversations that would rarely happen elsewhere.

Because when disciplines stop operating in isolation, unexpected connections can emerge.

Why a kitchen?

We could have chosen an auditorium.

We chose a kitchen.

A kitchen has never been simply a place to cook. It is where people gather when they actually want to stay. Where formality disappears and conversations naturally continue.

At Un lugar donde pasan cosas , the kitchen stops being a product and becomes the setting for a shared experience.

Architecture, design, hospitality and culture meet around the same table.

Six conversations about contemporary Valencia

The first season includes six conversations between September and December 2026.

Topics include architecture and citizenship, tourism and housing, regenerative design and contemporary craftsmanship, wellbeing and motherhood, corporate culture and architecture, and the role of graphic design in shaping the visual identity of a city.

We are not looking for definitive answers.

We are more interested in the questions — particularly those that continue long after the meeting has ended.

A showroom opening itself to the city

The project is initiated by Studio2, but it is not intended to be about Studio2.

During the season, its showroom at C/ del Mar, 42 in Valencia becomes a space for architecture, design, illustration, business, culture, gastronomy and other creative disciplines.

The aim is to transform the showroom into a place for hospitality, culture and encounter.

Because architecture can do more than create spaces.

It can also create the conditions for something to happen inside them.

Building a community, not an audience

The goal of Un lugar donde pasan cosas is not simply to fill thirty seats.

We want architects to discover illustrators. Journalists to find new stories. Businesses to meet creators. Students to share a table with professionals they admire.

We want to build a community of curious people who want to listen, share and continue asking questions.

Because a conversation does not necessarily end when the meeting finishes.

Sometimes that is precisely when it begins.

The conversation has only just begun

Un lugar donde pasan cosas begins in Valencia, but it has been created with a long-term vision.

New seasons. New disciplines. New places. New collaborators.

The setting may change.

The conversation should remain.
